Have You Ever

Have you ever taken the time to stop
and smell the fragrance of a rose or
admire it's radiant beauty?

Have you ever listened to the
sweet melody of a song
sparrows, meadow larks,
or the call of a whipporwill
in the quiet of the evening?
Then smell the fragrance
of pine needles on the breeze.

I follow a well beaten path
toward home along a small
valley stream and collect
my throughts in a peacful
type of dream.

Late evening is setting upon me now,
the blazing sunset makes the
sky appear on fire all around.
Wind swept clouds are tinted shades
of golden and orange and of
golden color or rye.

I can't help but stop and stare in
awe at the masterpiece painted
before my eyes.

The evening serenade lets the
sun sleep for the night.
The sundial's shadow falls long ..
I hear the gentle tones of a windchime
blowing in the evening breeze.

I hear nature's voice minister to
me in so many ways.
The birds sing farewell to another day
lived. The dove mourns for another day lost.
I wonder how may times the whippoorwill
whistles his song before
catching his breath.

The poetry and music of the
surrounding beckon the moon
to rise to the occasion.
As the daylight fades,
I hear the calling of frogs
and night creatures
as fire flies light up the night.

I breath in the cool air,
sip on a pepsi cola, as
I button my shirt and let the
blanket of night surrround me
while waiting for the
stars to engulf the sky.

My heart and mind are at
peace now, a simple life suits
me without any regrets.
For I have truly been blessed
to have a place such as this ...

And thankful I have the knowledge
and respect and love for it ...
and give praise to mother earth
and the great spirit for my blessed
corner of this confused world.
